I mean, look at these guys. If they don't look like fun all the way, I don't know what does!

Raab Associates Prize Winner, Phil Morgan!

Philip Morgan with guest Liz and tasty beverages.
Philip Morgan with Adjunct Instructor, Patti Argoff.

Well, a great time was had by all! Philip Morgan, Senior Illustration student, was awarded First Place in the 12th Annual Raab Associates Prize competition, and as a result, got to attend a fancy-schmancy dinner with a lot of other authors and illustrators. The event coordinates with the Connecticut Children's Book Fair right here on the UConn campus. It was swell! Get the story on the Raab Prize and check out Phil's entry here in the near future: Raab Prize site.

Or take a look at some of the press on his portrait of Geno Auriemma and Kay Yow here: Hartford Courant

And a BIG shout-out to Susan Raab, UConn alum, sponsor of the competition that bears her name, and all-around fab gal! Also, thanks goes to Jane Yolen, internationally known writer, who donated her poem for our use, as well as Terri Goldich, Curator, who is the glue who holds the Dodd Research Center, and this competition, together!

UConn Illustration Takes Over Society of Illustrators

That's right- we invaded the Society of Illustrators (as the Living Dead) in NYC on November 6th. Well, we participated in EPIC, the new art collective for students that has formed there. UConn represented well and even stepped up to take on some leadership positions. Well done students, and welcome to your future network!

Pretty worn out on the way home. Except for Mitch, who enjoyed sitting with his new "Travel Parents."

Rishi Bhoodram, Supastaaah!

Our very own Rishi Bhoodram demos his figure painting technique in front of a live crowd in East Hartford. It's a brave move, especially when you announce that you are going to paint everyone in the audience! Well done, Rishi!

Sanjay Patel/Pixar/Great Interview w/ Process Shots!

Wow, this guy's good! And he's a great study for those of you working with the current Raab Associates Prize competition artwork (i.e. images for a children's magazine that need to be fresh and hip). When I said, "Look at Charley Harper's work" that wasn't wrong (amazing!)! You'll see that Charley Harper serves as one of Sanjay Patel's major influences.

Treat yourself and look at the work of both of these fellows (complimentary links included, as always).
